A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kunle Edun, has called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of Mene Ogidi in Efurum, Delta State, raising concerns over what he described as disturbing patterns in the conduct of the officer involved.
Edun made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, April 30, 2026, while reacting to ongoing legal and investigative developments in the case.

He also revisited the widely circulated video evidence, stating that it raised serious questions about the actions of the officer identified in the footage. “You know, let me go back to that issue of the video recording. Yeah. The video recording. If you look at A.S.P. Nuhu Usman, the way he cocked the gun, that wasn’t, that couldn’t have been his first time. The first time he was doing such a thing. That couldn’t have been,” Edun said.
He further expressed concern over what he described as the reaction of other officers present during the incident. “And the way he was hailed. It looked like it was a pattern. It was a pattern. And that’s very disturbing,” he added.
Edun questioned the necessity and urgency of the use of lethal force against the victim, arguing that the circumstances did not justify such action. “And another thing again is that, why was he so much in a hurry to kill the young man?” he asked.
Providing additional context, he stated that the victim had already been restrained at the time of the shooting. “Mind you, he had first shot him at the Effurum Park. Shot him on the leg. After this young man had already been tied up by the park executives. He was not, he posed no danger to any person. Even, no danger to even himself. He still shot him,” Edun said.
