The former senator argued that Obi’s popularity during the campaign and the level of public enthusiasm witnessed nationwide suggested that the Labour Party candidate secured significantly more votes than the officially declared result.
Expressing confidence in his position, Umeh said: “I’m sure he won the election. Obi’s votes if they were all recorded for him, I’m sure he got up to 10million votes. But it was downsided to 6.1million votes.”
He maintained that the official figure credited to Obi did not, in his opinion, accurately capture the true scale of support the former Anambra governor received during the election.
Umeh, however, did not provide specific evidence to support the claim but insisted that many Nigerians strongly believed the Labour Party candidate performed beyond expectations……
