The infant is shown reacting to the contents and licking her lips, a scene that immediately sparked condemnation from social media users, parents, and child rights activists nationwide.
Police officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being intensified to locate and arrest the suspect.
“We have begun a search for the woman involved in the child abuse video. Once apprehended, she will face the full consequences of the law,” a spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command reportedly stated.
Several bloggers and online commentators, including Stella Dimoko Korkus, who helped bring attention to the matter through her news platform, have called for the child to be placed under protective care.
“Some mothers are unbelievable. I have heard of people bleaching their children to appear mixed-race, but giving alcohol to a baby is beyond shocking,” Korkus reportedly wrote.
Many social media users speculated that the act may have been carried out to gain attention and online engagement, a growing trend that has raised concerns about people placing children in harmful situations for social media popularity.
Child welfare advocates have also strongly condemned the incident. Ruth Ijeoma, a child protection campaigner based in Lagos, described the act as criminal rather than simply irresponsible parenting.
“This goes beyond poor judgment. It is dangerous and abusive behavior,” she said, adding that the child should be removed from such an environment immediately.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Women Affairs has encouraged the public to report similar incidents, stressing that children should never be exploited for online content or entertainment purposes.
