Residents of Uromi say this arrest has brought relief to many because the town has seen cases of crime linked to drugs and strange people moving around in recent times. The Hausa Quarter is a busy part of the town with many traders and settlers. People are now calling on the police and other security agencies to take over the case and investigate properly to know who the man really is and what he planned to do with the army uniform and drugs.
Social media has been buzzing with reactions since the video of the arrest came out. Many Nigerians are praising the OPC for their quick action. One user on X wrote, “OPC is really helping in Uromi. They are the eyes of the community. Well done!” Another person commented, “This is serious. A man with army uniform and drugs? They should investigate if he is part of a bigger gang.”
Some users expressed fear. “If they can catch this one, how many more are still moving freely?” a concerned resident posted. Others are asking questions like, “Is he a northerner? What is he doing with army camouflage in Edo State?” Many are calling for more support for local vigilante groups to help fight crime in different parts of the country.
This is not the first time OPC patrol teams in Uromi have caught people with drugs. In the past months, they have arrested youths selling hard drugs in the area. People in Edo State are tired of insecurity, and many now depend on these local security groups for quick response when police are not close.
Security experts say possessing military uniforms without permission is a serious offence under Nigerian law. It can lead to charges of impersonation and terrorism-related offences if linked to crime. The suspected drugs will also be tested by NDLEA or police laboratory.
As at the time of this report, the suspect is still in the hands of the OPC team, and no official police statement has been released. Residents are urging the authorities not to release the man easily until everything is clear. They want full investigation to protect lives and properties in Uromi and surrounding areas.
