Yoruba Nollywood actress Damipe Adekoya has opened up about the pressure and scrutiny that often come with being a pastor’s child, sharing a personal story that reflects the expectations placed on preacher’s kids.

She explained that she had worn a bodycon dress to the service, a choice that her father—who was the presiding pastor—felt was inappropriate for someone ministering on the altar.

The experience, she said, highlighted the intense expectations placed on pastors’ children to maintain a near-perfect public image.

Beyond the church setting, Adekoya noted that the scrutiny extends to her personal life and even her social media activity. She revealed that posts she makes online sometimes attract quick reactions from people who immediately report them to her father.

Sharing her frustration, the actress said: “In my own case, I cannot write anything on Facebook. Someone would have told my dad and my dad would tell me, ‘Take down that post you put on Facebook.’ It’s like everybody thinks you cannot make a mistake.

Everybody wants you to be an angel, forgetting that you are human first. I once said on someone’s podcast that I had been in church a particular day and because I wore a bodycon dress, I was asked to come down. I was leading praise and worship and I was asked to come down from the altar because I wore a bodycon dress.”

Adekoya added that the pressure often creates a double standard, as behaviours overlooked in other young people are quickly judged when they involve a pastor’s child.

According to the actress, society sometimes forgets that preacher’s kids are still ordinary people navigating life and learning from mistakes like everyone else.
