Owerri, Imo State – Just hours ago on Sunday, May 10, 2026, a young guy believed to be a student of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede was shot dead in broad daylight near the school area in Nekede, Owerri, Imo State.

Videos of the sad scene are now all over X (formerly Twitter) and other platforms. People who saw what happened say the robbers came to snatch phones and other valuables. The guy tried to resist, and in the process, they shot him. One report even claimed that after they robbed him, he said something that made the robbers suspect he belonged to a rival cult group. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive. As of now, the exact spot inside or around the poly is not fully confirmed by police, but all reports point to the Federal Polytechnic Nekede community in Owerri.
The Federal Polytechnic Nekede has not yet released any official statement, and the Imo State Police Command has not confirmed the victim’s name or made any arrest.
