The Delta State Police Command has reacted after a viral video showed an officer allegedly shooting a handcuffed suspect dead in broad daylight, an incident that has sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms. The command confirmed the arrest of the officer involved, ASP Nuhu Usman, following the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old suspect, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun.

According to Punch Newspaper, the report was published on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, detailing how the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in an official statement issued in response to the public backlash that trailed the disturbing footage.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended while attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

He noted that while officers were deployed to take the suspect into custody, the situation escalated when the team leader, ASP Usman, allegedly violated Force Order 237 and the Nigeria Police Force Standard Operating Procedure by discharging his firearm, resulting in the suspect’s death.

Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, condemned the act, describing it as an extrajudicial killing, and immediately ordered the officer’s arrest and transfer to the State Headquarters in Asaba.

Edafe added that the officer has since been moved to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he will face the Force Disciplinary Committee for further action, including possible prosecution.
