“Officers, abeg. I ‘ll tell you everything. It was my friend who deceived me,” the man said in the clip.

The officer leading the team, ASP Nuhu Usman, discharged his firearm leading to the suspect’s death.

The killing drew an immediate and furious response from residents of the state.

Youths stormed Ekpan Police Station, blocking entry and exit points in a demonstration they described as a demand for justice for Omena, as the slain musician was known to his community.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police condemned the incident as an extrajudicial killing and directed the Area Commander, Effurun, to immediately arrest ASP Nuhu Usman and transfer him to the State Headquarters, Asaba, for disciplinary action.

The officer has since been moved to Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he is to appear before the Force Disciplinary Committee for immediate disciplinary sanction and prosecution.

The Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the officer would be tried for murder.

He said the cop acted unprofessionally, adding that the violent action was one he could not explain.

Edafe said the command was still struggling to understand what led to the officer’s action.

“Having an incident that cannot be explained is very difficult. There is no explanation for this. That policeman, I just don’t get what I would say was wrong with him,” he said.
