Just In: Reps Members Move Toward New Alliance With Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso

Up to 17 members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a major shake-up in the composition of the Green Chamber and further deepening the ongoing realignments in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The defections were formally announced on Tuesday during plenary by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, as lawmakers cited unresolved internal crises within the ADC as the basis for their decision to switch allegiance.

Among those who moved to the NDC are Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, and Munachim Umezuruike...READ FULL STORY; FROM THE SOURCE.

Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.

The development is the latest in a series of defections that have hit the ADC in recent weeks, as political alignments continue to shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Lawmakers who defected reportedly pointed to lingering leadership disagreements and internal disputes within the party, which they said had affected cohesion and legislative coordination.

The wave of defections comes amid broader political movements involving key national figures, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who recently aligned with the NDC in a major opposition realignment.

Their move has continued to reshape discussions around emerging political structures, with analysts describing the NDC as a growing focal point for politicians seeking a new platform ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The latest defections are expected to further strengthen the numerical and strategic position of the NDC in the National Assembly, while raising fresh questions about the stability of opposition parties in the country.

With political realignments accelerating, attention is now shifting to how parties will manage internal cohesion and legislative loyalty as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
