“I Don’t Care If You Tell the IGP” – Rogue Officer Without Name Tag Caught Harassing Young Man for Using 3 Phones Days After IGP’s Name Tag Order

A shocking video making rounds on social media has left many Nigerians angry. Just days after Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, ordered all officers to wear name tags on duty, a policeman in Edo State was caught on camera harassing a young man on Saturday, May 10, 2026.
In the clip posted by EdoOnlineTv and shared widely on X, the officer, who had no name tag on his uniform, stopped the young man and questioned him for carrying three phones. When the young man tried to argue, the officer boldly said, “I don’t care if you tell the IGP.”.. …WATCH THE VIDEO HERE

The IGP had directed officers to always display their name tags to promote accountability and stop misconduct. Many people see this as a direct defiance of that order.
Nigerians on X are reacting strongly. One user wrote, “Few days after the IGP says all policemen must have a name tag, this officer is harassing someone over three phones and saying he doesn’t care about the IGP.” Another said, “This shows our police don’t respect their boss. The officer must be punished.” Some called it pure wickedness, while a few defended the officer, claiming three phones look suspicious. But most agree the lack of a name tag and rude behaviour is unacceptable.
The video has gone viral, with thousands of views and shares. Many are now tagging @PoliceNG_CRU, demanding action.
Nigerians are watching to see if the police will investigate and discipline the officer as promised. This case has once again raised questions about police accountability in the country.
