Blessings, who resides with her children in a compound within Port Harcourt, explained that her frustration had been building for months. She alleged that the landlord had a pattern of taking her daughter out without her consent.
The landlord always buys her gifts. Sometimes I will come back from the market, and I will not see my daughter. Neighbors and my younger one will tell me the landlord took her out for shopping, Blessings stated. She recalled confronting the man, to which he reportedly replied that she was making him out to be a bad person. I said no, stop taking my daughter out, she added.
The situation escalated when the 21-year-old daughter recently announced her pregnancy and named the landlord as the father. The daughter reportedly told her mother that the landlord had slept with her on two separate occasions at a hotel without protection.
Devastated by the revelation, Blessings admitted to the public beating and stripping of her daughter, stating she acted out of pain and frustration. I have five children, no husband. Who will take care of this one? she lamented.
As of the time of filing this report, Blessings has officially reported the case to the police. Authorities have since taken the landlord into custody for questioning regarding the allegations of sexual relations with the young woman.
While the mother has sought legal recourse, public opinion remains divided. Some residents argue that the landlord bears full responsibility as an older figure in a position of power.
